What is the importance of internships for freshers?

Importance of Internships to IT Freshers

Internships are an important part of the transition from student to professional for new graduates. Through internships, freshers have the opportunity to gain real-world experience in their chosen field, develop essential skills such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and time management, and build their professional network. Internships also provide freshers with an opportunity to explore potential career paths, determine their interests and areas of expertise, and gain an understanding of the industry and the workplace.

  1. Apply theory

Internships provide students with the opportunity to practice what they have learned in a real-world environment. This will help you better understand the theories and strategies you read, solidify your learning process, and improve your concentration.
  2. Get a feel for the workplace

Internships are great for students exploring career options. Joining a team can give you a better understanding of what it's like to work for a particular company and give you a clearer idea of the industry itself. This knowledge will help you in your future job search and help you better understand the types of jobs you want and, perhaps more importantly, the types of jobs you don't want.
  3. Boost your confidence

Of course, an internship helps you learn about the work environment, but it also helps you learn about yourself. Know your strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes. Most importantly, knowing that you have real-world experience will help you feel more confident when looking for a job or interviewing.
  4. Build a network

As Porter Gale wrote, "Your network is your asset," and internships provide great networking opportunities for students. Meet colleagues and team members, attend meetings, and meet new people in a professional environment. A successful internship allows you to make lifelong connections that help you find employment, meet clients, and even make recommendations.
  5. Motivation

There is a big difference between writing an academic paper and writing an actual report that has real-world impact. Knowing that you contribute to the success of live projects and that people rely on your good work gives you extra motivation. When it comes to classes, you can also reinforce why you're working toward your certification. This will give you an extra boost to study hard.
  6. Improve your resume

Students who apply for internships demonstrate a willingness to take responsibility, a willingness to perform, a willingness to learn, and an interest in experience.  These are all qualities that recruiters are interested in, and they can help you differentiate yourself in a competitive job market. No matter how successful your internship is, you can hold your head high and explain what you have learned and your responsibilities.
  7. Get a job right away

If you work hard and take initiative, you may even be offered a position in a company after an internship or study abroad. If your manager is confident in your ability to get the job done and knows who you are, you are much more likely to get the role than if they weren't. Of course, it's not guaranteed, but an internship can certainly help you get your foot in the door.
  8. Obtaining a letter of introduction or recommendation

When looking for a graduate's first position, referrals and endorsements can make the difference between an offer and a decline.

Most managers are happy to provide a referral or letter of recommendation upon completion of an internship. This increases your chances of getting the job you've always wanted when you need it.
